How to Make Fingerprint Flower Glass Magnet Crafts:
These sweet, vibrant flower crafts encourage creativity and help toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and the elderly strengthen their fine motor skills. To make them, you’ll need cardstock, fingerprint ink pads or paint (acrylic works best), clear glass gems (also called floral stones, flat-backed marbles, or cabochons), magnets, and a strong, clear drying glue or adhesive.
Start this personalized craft by making fingerprint flower art on bright white heavyweight paper (cardstock works best). Begin by pressing your finger onto a fingerprint ink pad. You can also dip your fingertip in paint or use a paintbrush to brush it onto your fingertip or pinky. Press your finger or pinky onto the paper to create a fingerprint flower with the step-by-step instructions in the craft tutorial below.
Once the flower prints dry, you can add optional details like stems or leaves with a fine brush, watercolor paint, or markers. Then, glue a glass stone on it. Allow the glue to dry, and attach a small ceramic magnet to the bottom to complete this easy flower craft. You can also make Thumbprint Heart Glass Magnets or other fingerprint art magnets with the same fingerprint craft materials.
Fingerprint Flower Craft Supplies:
Please read through the step-by-step instructions in the following section before making these fingerprint flower crafts, so you know the steps involved and can make a more informed choice about the craft supply options. Then, gather the fingerprint art magnet supplies you want to use to make glass gem fingerprint flower magnets from the recommendations below:
- Cardstock:
I recommend using a circle cutter if you pre-cut paper circles before making flower magnets.
- Finger ink pads or acrylic paint:
- The photographs for this DIY glass gem craft tutorial show fingerprint flowers made with fingerprint ink pads.
- If you use acrylic paint, it is best to use it sparingly. Too much paint can make it difficult to glue the fingerprint art to the glass gem because paint can cause the flower art to become raised or have texture. If you try this option, lightly brush paint onto the finger or pinky tip with a paintbrush.
- Glue or adhesive (clear-drying):
- Extra-large clear glass gems:
- They are also known as flat-backed marbles, table scatter, floral stones, and glass cabochons.
- These glass stones are found at most floral, craft, hobby, or dollar stores.
- Please ensure that the gems or stones do not contain any iridescent coating or glaze.
- It’s also best to ensure the glass stones you choose are large enough to fit over the fingerprint art; otherwise, they won’t work to make these easy flower crafts.
Ceramic magnets for crafts:
- Or, purchase glass gems and magnets together. (Please note that these glass gems are round and slightly smaller than the extra-large clear glass gems recommended above.)
- Small detail craft scissors or big kids’ scissors for crafts.

- To make each fingerprint art flower craft, create four to seven petals around the first fingerprint in a circle.

I tried this and the flowers have smudged once I added the glue. Any suggestions? I’ve tried craft glue and mod podge.
Hi Mollie, I’m sorry that you are having trouble with the fingerprint flowers smudging. I have found waiting for the fingerprint art to dry overnight works best. Give it a try!
Did you use the gloss or matte glue?
Hi Kristen, in my experience, it doesn’t matter which you use. Both gloss and matte Mod Podge will work. And, there are several other types of white PVC glue you can use to make fingerprint magnet crafts. Happy crafting!
