DIY Glass Cleaner
I learned how to make glass cleaner with vinegar while working as a yoga instructor. Most yoga studios have glass windows and mirrors that need to be cleaned every day, and, many of them have turned to vinegar as their primary eco-friendly glass cleaner of choice.
The problem? The homemade glass cleaning solution smells like vinegar — ugh!
When I added essential oil to my favorite natural window cleaning recipe, I began to LOVE cleaning with it. The smell of vinegar is still present, but the essential oils tame it nicely.
The best part is that lemon essential oil can really add to the cleaning power of this homemade glass cleaner… I get streak-free fast-drying shine every time!

Best Glass, Mirror, and Window Cleaner Recipe
This is hands down the best glass cleaner that I have ever made. The homemade window cleaning solution requires a 2:1 ratio of water to vinegar. In other words, use approximately twice as much water as vinegar to make this homemade glass cleaning recipe.
- 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 c distilled water
- 1/2 to 3/4 c vinegar
- 1-3 drops of eco-friendly liquid dish soap
- 20 drops of lemon essential oil
The glass and window cleaner recipe listed above can fill a 16oz spray bottle. We like to use clear spray bottles for our glass cleaner, blue spray bottles for our DIY all-purpose cleaning solution, and brown bottles for our wood polish. It helps everyone in the house know at first glance which homemade cleaning product we need to grab.
Feel free to substitute another essential oil in place of lemon essential oil to make this amazing glass cleaner. Orange and grapefruit essential oils also work great in this glass cleaning solution. Get them all in this lovely set of Organic essential oils!

We like to use glass spray bottles for our homemade window cleaning solution because essential oils keep longer in glass containers, and, using glass bottles can cut down on the amount of plastic waste. The planet is in desperate need of less plastic! If you are concerned about plastic breaking, use silicon sleeves for glass spray bottles.
