Learn how to use essential oils in the home with these simple tips!
Over the past few months, I have been learning that I can do pretty much anything with essential oils!
I no longer need to buy products that once ripped a hole in my pocket. Instead, I have learned how to make my own household cleaning products, bath and body products, wellness products, and so much more!
The best part? Using essential oils helps my family stay healthy and reduces our carbon footprint. Two things near and dear to my heart.

How to Use Essential Oils
These aren’t just pretty little bottles that will sit and collect dust. They are dynamos of power that have a lot more uses than anything I have ever purchased.
Today I will be sharing several ways that I have been learning to use oils to create a healthy [and happy] home.
Diffuse and Enjoy!
Diffusing oils into the air is one of the best ways to experience the therapeutic benefits of essential oils. Every starter kit from Young Living comes complete with a diffuser. When diffused essential oils may be able to improve air quality, reduce the number of airborne chemicals and help to create greater physical, emotional, and spiritual harmony.
Did you know that everything you inhale eventually ends up in your bloodstream? Commercially purchased air fresheners of all kinds contain chemicals including formaldehyde! If you want your home and the people in it to be healthy keep them far away from your home.
I personally prefer therapeutic grade plant-based oils to chemicals getting into my family’s bloodstream. Bonus: they smell so much better and don’t damage your olfactory nerves as the commercial air fresheners do.
We love our diffuser! We don’t know how we ever lived without it — talk about life-changing benefits. Now that we have one we want one for every room. I diffuse oils to: relieve stress, increase focus and productivity, calm my spirited child, aid sleep, support wellness, reduce odors, decrease airborne chemicals, pathogens and free radicals… the list goes on and on.
Make your own Cleaning Products
I am done with store-bought cleaning products. Even environmentally-friendly ones. The prices are through the roof and I am constantly finding ingredients in them such as sulfates and parabens that are not friendly to the environment at all. The chemicals found in most cleaning products are toxic, bad for the environment, and especially bad for young children.
I’ll be honest. I always wanted to make my own cleaning products but I was too lazy to do it. I didn’t know where to find essential oils or which ones to buy. When I discovered Young Living and their Seed to Seal® process I was sold. They use a five-step process where they oversee the development of each oil from seed to seal.
I soon realized that I was not lazy, I just needed a stockpile like the one that comes in the Young Living starter kit to be at the ready in my house. Since purchasing my starter kit I have made the following cleaning products:
Create Your own Bath & Body Products
One of the hardest things for me to wrap my head around has been the realization that the products that we use on our children daily are selected under false pretenses.
Many labels on the market today mislead parents into thinking that they are safe for their children — when the ingredient list proves otherwise. Sulfates, parabens, and mineral oil are some of the worst offenders. This list also includes; alcohol, aluminum, DEA, propylene glycol, and talc. Let the buyer beware!
Since purchasing our starter kit my husband and I have been playing with making all sorts of bath and body products. Products we can trust because we put all the ingredients together ourselves. The store-bought lotions, creams, and sprays of all kinds are slowly going by the wayside as we continue to test and perfect our homemade versions.
I have a few facial washes, lotions, creams, lip balms, shaving creams, and leave-in conditioning spray’s that we are testing out before we share our favorites with you. Once again, be sure you sign up for our newsletter below so you don’t miss them.
For now, I will leave you with our tried and true leave-in conditioner and detangling spray. No more chemicals for us!
Support Emotional & Physical Wellness
Now that we have discovered the wealth of essential oils that can be used to support the emotions and body systems (cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, immune, etc.) my family has been healthier than ever.
We’ve been learning about how to support our mental-emotional states and body systems using a 400-page reference guide that I recommend to everyone who purchases a starter kit.
