How to Make a Fall Leaf Crown
Use the step by step instructions below to make a preserved fall leaf crown craft with real autumn leaves!
Step 1 – Get outside to collect fall leaves
Invite the kids to go outside on a nature scavenger hunt for fall leaves to make autumn leaf crowns to adorn their heads.
Step 2 – Download, print, and cut out fall leaf crown template or draw your own
Download and print the fall crown template onto cardstock, or design your own autumn crown with a recycled paper bag. Use thick or folded paper to make a sturdy crown. Cut it out, and decorate it with crayons, colored pencils, or markers before gluing on fall leaves. (optional)
Step 3 – Decorate autumn crown with real fall leaves
Use Mod Podge with a foam brush to attach the fall leaves to the autumn crown. Mod Podge is a type of glue that can help preserve fall leaves. (Click the link to learn how!) Dip the fall leaves in Mod Podge and use a foam brush to coat the tops of them as much as possible if you would like to preserve your fall crown. Lay flat to dry.
Step 4 – Attach yarn or string to complete fall crown craft
Use a single hole punch to punch holes on either side of the crown. There are dots on the crown template to make this easy. You can punch holes before or after the printable crown template is decorated with autumn leaves.
Once the autumn leaves are dry, measure and tie a piece of yarn or string to each side of the fall crown craft. Before tightening, place it onto the crown of a child or adult’s head, gently bend and form the preserved leaf crown around their forehead, and tie it to fit.
